Djazairouna Association

Djazairouna Association launched the She Builds Peace campaign in Algeria with a workshop to raise awareness of sexual violence and UN Security Council Resolution 1325 (UNSCR 1325). 35 women from across Algeria received training on types of sexual violence, psychological effects on survivors of sexual abuse and services available for survivors (including judicial, medical, and psychological services). In an introduction to UNSCR 1325, participants discussed the roles that Algerian women peacebuilders play in the country and wider region, and the obstacles they face in being able to fully participate in peace processes. The participants also examined the importance of increasing women peacebuilders’ visibility in the media and including them in decision-making and peace negotiations

The campaign launch continued with a peace walk on International Women’s Day where participants generated public awareness by carrying signs with information on UNSCR 1325 Some participants also marched with signs depicting the names and faces of women victims of terrorism to draw attention to the threats women face and how womepeacebuilders mitigate these threats Alerted to the lack of public awareness around the women, peace and security agenda, Djazairouna Association plan to facilitate an information day with thematic groups on UNSCR 1325
