As part of the Not About Them, Without Them: Afghan Women’s Voice and Vision Shaping the Future project, ICAN has documented the critical and powerful work of our partners—Afghan women peacebuilders leading change locally and globally. These case studies are the result of in-depth interviews and sustained collaboration with these courageous women.

The case studies highlight the innovative and transformative strategies employed by Afghan women peacebuilders in their pursuit of peace, pluralism, and gender equality. They are intended not only to recognize and preserve the invaluable contributions of these women, but also to present their work from their own perspectives—providing the opportunity for each partner to reflect on their own work, contributions, and achievements.

This series comprises four thematic case studies, each providing a gendered analysis on conflict and peace. All case studies will be available in English, Dari, and Pashto.

Each of these themes represents a critical dimension of peacebuilding, offering in-depth insights into the challenges, successes, and lessons learned. Through these resources, ICAN acknowledges the unwavering work of Afghan women peacebuilders, honoring their resilience, innovation, and leadership. By preserving and sharing their strategies, this series contributes to their lasting legacy and offers a roadmap for continued progress toward peace and equality.

The four case studies will be released throughout Spring 2025. Learn more about each case study below.
