ICAN engages on additional topics that are deeply interconnected with our core practice areas. All our work strives to be responsive to our partners’ needs and form a holistic package of support for women peacebuilders.
Conflict-Related Sexual Violence (CRSV)
As part of the Women, Peace, and Security community of practice, ICAN and our WASL partners are engaged in policy development, prevention, and responses to Conflict-Related Sexual Violence (CRSV).
We fund our partners who confront and address CRSV, document effective partner strategies, and develop and advocate for practical and tested strategies with governments and policymakers.
Triple Nexus – Humanitarian Crises, Peace, and Development
Women peacebuilders are present, active, preemptive, and responsive to crises, leveraging limited resources to tackle multiple challenges in fragile contexts.
Internationally, there is growing recognition of the need to integrate humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding programming, often referred to as the “triple nexus.”
Where donor requirements allow, we support and fund our partners to respond to their communities’ needs as crises arise. We also advocate for donors and institutions to embrace triple nexus thinking and flexible funding models.
Feminist Foreign Policy
Since 2014, when Sweden adopted the world’s first explicitly feminist foreign policy, numerous countries have followed suit.
Though the practice of feminist foreign policy varies from country to country, the underlying premise is a commitment to include a gender perspective in all policy development and address barriers to gender equality.
