On April 12, 2013, ICAN co-founder Sanam Naraghi-Anderlini was interviewed on KSBI 52 television during her trip to talk to college students in Oklahoma about the importance of women’s voices in peacemaking. “The idea of making peace isn’t just limited to politicians and armed actors signing an agreement and having a power deal,” Anderlini says. “Women play a very important role in promoting non-violence, bringing in moderate voices, [and] seeking change both in terms of their own lives but also in their own communities.” She impressed upon the students the importance of being informed on U.S. policies in the region, and whether and how those policies support inclusive peace-building in the Middle East and North Africa.
