ICAN delighted to announce that 17 years after the UN Security adopted of Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, the US Women, Peace and Security Act was signed into law on October 6th, 2017. We thank and congratulate all of the US lawmakers who led and supported this effort.

Since 2010 as a co-founding member of the US Civil Society Working Group on WPS, we have engaged multiple stakeholders in the US policy arena and are proud of our small contributions to this mighty effort. We also congratulate all of our partners in the US CSWG, particularly those who led and persisted with the effort to engage the US Senate and House of Representatives over the years.

As proud members of the global women, peace and security movement, we have all worked hard to get this far.

The International Civil Society Action Network (ICAN) remains committed to ensuring that the promise of peace that is inherent in this new American legislation becomes a reality in the lives of our many partners who are true peace heroes in war zones worldwide.
