FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Watan e Ma – وطن ما – Our Homeland: An Interactive Event and Exhibit Honoring the Resilience of Afghan Women Peacebuilders

NEW YORK, NY – The International Civil Society Action Network (ICAN) is proud to present Watan e Ma – وطن ما – Our Homeland, an immersive event and exhibition dedicated to honoring the resilience, courage, and unwavering defiance of Afghan women peacebuilders. The event will take place on March 17, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Blue Gallery in New York City

Coinciding with Nowruz, the Persian New Year celebrating renewal and hope—a tradition currently banned from public celebration in Afghanistan—this event is a tribute to the indomitable spirit of Afghan women who continue their unyielding pursuit of peace, freedom, and equality. The exhibit will feature the work of 17 women artists, artisans, photographers, and filmmakers from both inside Afghanistan and the diaspora, along with performances by an Afghan poetess and Rabab players. The legacy and current impact of 22 Afghan women-led peacebuilding organizations and community organizers will be showcased. This event serves as a poignant reminder of Afghanistan’s deep cultural roots, where coexistence and pluralism have long been central values and where women have historically played vital roles in society.

“Standing in solidarity with Afghan women is a strategic investment in peace and resilience. Their efforts––despite the threats––their courage, and vision can ensure that Afghanistan’s future is not defined by extremists but is pluralistic and rooted in peace and dignity for all.”
- Sanam Naraghi Anderlini, MBE

This event is a call to action: Let us honor their courage, invest in their vision, and ensure that Afghan women’s voices shape the future of their homeland.
