Parliaments are key in advocating change in national legislation, and in actively pushing for the implementation of the global Women, Peace and Security Agenda. To advance this work, UNDP launched a global Peacebuilding through Parliaments initiative which seeks to strengthen the role of parliaments and parliamentarians in implementing the women, peace and security agenda to promote gender equality, prevent violent extremism and build peace in their societies. The project engages parliamentarians and actors at the local, regional and global levels to a) enhance the capacity of parliaments and parliamentarians to advance the WPS agenda; b) increase the participation and leadership of women MPs in parliamentary committees; and, c) strengthen national collaboration between parliaments and civil society on WPS topics.
