About the Organization
Mobaderoon is an organization based in Syria that works to promote active citizenship and build trust to support and sustain peaceful coexistence.
Through training and research, capacity building programs, and community projects, Mobaderoon promotes peacebuilding, positive youth participation, and community development. Mobaderoon mobilizes its network of activists and organizations to create a space for safe dialogue, address sensitive issues pertaining to peace and conflict resolution, to find common ground across political or other differences, and support capacity-building programs. Mobaderoon also strengthens the capacity of local women-led civil society organizations in Syria to support gender-inclusive peacebuilding.
ICAN’s Innovative Peace Fund has supported Mobaderoon since 2018.

Across Syria, communities are finding ways to reconnect after years of war through dialogue, storytelling, art, and collective action. Mobaderoon’s Local Peace Committees demonstrate why lasting peace begins within communities themselves.
ICAN convened 20 members of WASL in Lisbon for the “Our Strategies, Our Peace” Writers’ Workshop. This unique gathering provided a secure and creative space for women peacebuilders to share their strategies, experience, expertise, and stories from conflict and crisis contexts.
Representatives from ICAN and the WASL network attended the International Conference on Women, Peace, and Security (ICWPS) in Manila from October 28-30, 2024.
ICAN, in partnership with the Permanent Missions of Norway, Sweden, and Canada, the United Kingdom Foreign Commonwealth & Development Office (UKFCDO), the Ministry of Gender, Child and Welfare of South Sudan, the Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC), and the National Transformational Leadership Institute (NTLI), convened a 1.5-day workshop to discuss how to strengthen community security as a localized, transformative approach for sustainable peace.
The She Builds Peace campaign launched in Syria with eight local events across the country, supported by Mobaderoon.
Mobaderoon is a non-profit organization that provides crucial support to civil society organizations in Syria. Their main focus is on offering consulting and training services specifically tailored to address the unique needs and challenges faced by local communities.
In the midst of war, an ever-expanding network of dedicated Syrians have been working to heal the torn society. At the center is Ghada Rifai, a trained architect who has built a human network rooted in the values of peace, diversity and non-violence.
