Center for Civil Society and Democracy (CCSD) Turkey

CCSD launched the “She Builds Peace” campaign with 50 Syrian women residing in Turkey and holding Turkish citizenship in order to build a strong network where women can exchange experiences and knowledge. CCSD raised women’s awareness on the protection and prevention measures in place that prevent gender-based violence, and the need for spaces for active participation of women in public life. CCSD also increased societal awareness about women peace builders, especially those detained for their political opinion and facing social stigma.

CCSD contributed to the opening of the Female Exhibition in Urfa on December 8th and 10th, 2021, which includes paintings and stories of disappeared women, attended by Syrians, Turks and Turkish government agencies.

Outcomes and Impacts:

  • Women have increased knowledge of Resolution 1325, the Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), and the Beijing Declaration and a network to exchange experiences.
  • Participants are more aware of the repeated cases of violence against women refugees in Turkey and directing them to protection and rehabilitation centers and legal clinics that provide useful legal and human rights advice for women.
  • CCSD shed light on the issue of Syrian women detainees through the Exhibition to disseminate it on a wider social and media field.
